Durban - KwaZulu-Natal police chalked up a significant success when they seized nearly 2.5 tons of dagga in Ingwavuma at the weekend.
Spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said that police were conducting an operation when they happened upon a bakkie on Sunday.
"They approached the driver and requested to search his vehicle. During the search, the members recovered 49 bags of dagga, weighing 50kg each," he said.
"It is believed that the dagga was being transported to Gauteng from Mozambique. A 34-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested and charged for possession of dagga."
He was expected to appear at the Ingwavuma Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
