Man gets 10 years for fatal stabbing at traditional ceremony

Durban - A northern KwaZulu-Natal man has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for stabbing another man repeatedly at a traditional ceremony in KwaNongoma last year.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said Sigcino Nxumalo, 24, had been sentenced for the murder of 18-year-old Siyabonga Mhlongo in the Nongoma Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

“Mhlongo was murdered at Kwanyakanyaka area in Nongoma. Both men were at the traditional ceremony in one of the homesteads in the area when Nxumalo attacked Mhlongo and fatally stabbed him in the chest,” Zwane said.

“A case of murder was opened at Nongoma Police Station and Nxumalo was arrested the following day. He appeared in the Nongoma Magistrate’s Court several times until he was sentenced,” Zwane added.
