Durban - A Nongoma municipality official was arrested on Wednesday following the murder of the municipality's internal auditor nine months ago, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
The 39-year-old man jumped over a fence and fled into the bushes when officers arrived at his home in KwaHolinyoka around 03:00, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said.
He was caught, arrested and charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder. He will appear in the KwaNongoma Regional Court on Friday.
Archie Duma, 40, was shot as he returned home from a municipal meeting around 16:30 on August 16, 2016.
KwaZulu-Natal community safety MEC Mxolisi Kaunda said at the time that he was killed after having opened a case of intimidation.
In March, police arrested a man in Secunda, Mpumalanga, for the murder. Phakamani Innocent Mthembu, 30, will be back in the Nongoma Regional Court on May 4 to apply for bail.
