KZN policewoman gunned down on her way to work

Durban – KwaZulu-Natal police are investigating a case of murder after a policewoman was shot and killed on her way to work during the early hours of Friday morning.

KZN police spokesperson Thembeka Mbhele said the policewoman was at a bus stop in Bonela Road, Central Durban at around 06:00 when four armed gunmen shot at her.

She was hit in her upper body and died at the scene.

The policewoman was stationed at Maydon Wharf.

Mbhele said her service pistol was taken and added that the motive for the killing was unknown.

Rescue Care paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said: "Unfortunately she had sustained major injuries and there was nothing more paramedics could do. She was declared deceased on the scene," he said.

He said the victim was believed to be in her 30s.
