Limpopo - A top African National Congress (ANC) politician in Limpopo has accused some of the party's leaders of putting their families first and acting like they are bigger than the party.
ANC provincial executive committee member Silence Makhubele was speaking during a Nelson Mandela lecture at Malamulele Hospital recently.
"Nelson Mandela was a selfless leader who puts other people first. Today leaders care about themselves and their families, but with Mandela it was different," said Makhubele.
He said selfishness caused problems within the party.
"We have leaders who are selfish and cause problems in the branches of the ANC. They think that they are bigger than the ANC but Mandela was a humble member of the ANC. That is why at some point he vowed to go back to serve at branch level," Makhubele said.
ANC provincial treasurer Miyelani Chauke applauded Makhubele on the speech.
"We would like to thank Makhubele for this good lecture and hope that people will learn from this giant global icon, Nelson Mandela," he said.
Meanwhile, the ANC's youth wing donated 100 blankets in remembrance of Mandela.
Malamulele Hospital board chairperson Prince Mathebula thanked the ANCYL for the donation.
"As Malamulele Hospital we really thank the ANCYL for the good gesture and hope that what they have done will touch and change somebody's life," said Mathebula.
