Cape Town - A man was arrested for alleged possession of abalone worth about R2m, Western Cape police said on Friday.
Officers on their way to attend to a complaint spotted a "suspicious looking" Nissan Navara driving in front of them on the N2 on Thursday night, Captain FC van Wyk said.
"Members could see that it was carrying a load, and could not drive very fast. They pulled the vehicle over and searched it and found 14 432 pieces of abalone with an estimated street value of R2m," he said.
The 33-year-old driver was arrested and would appear in the Caledon Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. The bakkie was confiscated.
