Manhunt after two men escape from Zwelitsha Magistrate's Court

Port Elizabeth - A manhunt is underway after two offenders escaped from the Zwelitsha Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, the department of correctional services said.

Department spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo, said the incident happened at around 14:00.

The two men, Lwandile Lolwana, 30, and Nkosana Mpe, 35, fled in a white bakkie, with the registration number FPH 048 EC and are allegedly armed.

Nxumalo said both offenders were incarcerated for serious crimes, including rape and robbery and are considered to be dangerous.

"The department is appealing to everyone to assist with any information that could lead to their re-arrest. The public is further advised to immediately contact their nearest police station and never attempt to apprehend them."

Nxumalo said the department and the police were hot on the heels of the offenders and would make sure that the men are brought to book.
