Johannesburg - A University of Cape Town student died after falling off the third floor of his Liesbeeck Gardens residence, the university said on Monday.
Mongameli Nicholas Zaza was rushed to hospital after the incident on Friday evening, but succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, spokesperson Gerda Kruger said.
Although the cause of his fall had not been established yet, Kruger said no foul play was suspected.
"People who witnessed the incident do not necessarily have all the relevant facts. There does not appear to be any indication of foul play."
The institution sent condolences to Zaza's family and friends. Counselling would be made available for students and staff members.
Zaza was studying towards a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree and this year would have been his third year.
A memorial service would be held at the weekend in Khayelitsha, where he lived. He would be buried in Butterworth, Eastern Cape the following weekend.
