North West mine officials get 5 years' jail for corruption

Mahikeng - Two former employees of a North West platinum mine have been sentenced to five years in prison by the Rustenburg Regional Court for corruption, the Hawks said on Wednesday.

Martin Lottering, 50, and Daniel Lazarus Nape, 40, promised to award the managing director of a training service provider called Prisma with a tender worth R1m, in exchange for 12 monthly payments of R30 000, Captain Tlangelani Rikhotso said.

Lottering was head of training at the Tharisa mine, 35km east of Rustenburg. Nape was his deputy.

Prisma’s MD contacted the Hawks and they began investigating.

The two were arrested in September 2015, after the MD paid the two R30 000. Lottering and Nape were sentenced on Tuesday.

North West Hawks head, Major General Linda Mbana, warned people to not get involved in corruption and lauded detectives for their work.
