Northern Cape man arrested for copper cable theft

Kimberley – A 41-year-old man was arrested for possession of suspected stolen copper cable with an estimated street value of R13 000, Northern Cape police said.

The man was arrested following a tip-off that he was storing suspected stolen copper on his farm near Kimberley, said Lieutenant Olebogeng Tawana.

Tawana said the six bags containing copper weighing 197kg were found hidden in his storeroom.

The man was expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court on Thursday where he is to face a charge of possession of stolen property.
