Oscar: I knew that I had killed her. I knew she was dead...

Johannesburg - Oscar Pistorius says he doesn't know whether his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, felt any pain when he killed her, but he knew what he did was terrible.

He said that after he fired four shots into the toilet door of his home on February 14, 2013, and upon seeing Reeva after breaking through the door that "at that point I knew that I had killed her. I knew that she was dead and I went down on my knees and pulled her on to me".

"I don't know that she felt pain. I don't know what she felt. Whatever I did was terrible," the murder-convicted former paralympian said in his first television interview since the incident, with ITV's Mark Williams-Thomas.

"I did take Reeva's life and I have to live with that."

Pistorius mentioned the hurt the incident caused his family and said that some former friends no longer spoke to him following the killing.

"But I see the pain it has caused Reeva's family. I don't blame them."

The interview was carried in South Africa on M-Net's Carte Blanche on Friday night.

Pretoria High Court Judge Thokozile Masipa is expected to hand down a murder sentence for Pistorius on July 6.

The Supreme Court of Appeal previously overturned her verdict of culpable homicide and replaced it with one of murder.
