Johannesburg - Photographs showing terror-accused twins Brandon-Lee and Tony-Lee Thulsie with what appears to be an assault rifle were released during proceedings in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Friday.
EWN reported that, in addition to photos of the twins with a rifle and a bomb belt, the State’s evidence against them included pictures with instructions for making bombs and details on how to destroy a building. These were allegedly recovered from their cellphones.
The 23-year-old twins were allegedly plotting attacks on a US embassy and Jewish cultural sites in South Africa. They were arrested during raids in Newclare and Azaadville on Saturday, July 9. They face three counts of contravening the Protection of Constitutional Democracy against Terrorist and Related Activities Act.
According to an affidavit by Hawks detective Wynand Olivier, the twins were found in possession of Islamic State propaganda.
ENCA reported that, during questioning following raids on their homes, Tony-Lee indicated that he was prepared to go to jail, as he believed in what he had done.
The Thulsies, who tried to travel to Syria in 2015, applied for the searches conducted at their homes to be declared unlawful.
The case was postponed to Monday.
