Pretoria – A man who was shot when a rifle fell over at a hunting lodge in Limpopo is in a stable condition in hospital after a relay-rescue spanning three provinces.
The man, who is in his forties, was part of a group staying in a lodge near Northam in Limpopo. They were in the hunting camp on Tuesday when someone, allegedly the daughter of one of the members of the group, knocked over a hunting rifle, Netwerk24 reported.
The bullet hit the man in the face.
Loanne Louw, spokesperson for the Hartbeespoort Emergency Unit, said the injured man was flown from the lodge in a private helicopter.
“Our people met the patient on the R511 about 70km from Brits (in North West). Emergency vehicles blocked off the road to enable the chopper to land.”
An ambulance and a Netcare 911 helicopter were sent to meet the chopper.
“The patient was stabilised. He was in a serious condition, but not critical,” Louw told Netwerk24.
The Netcare 911 helicopter took the man to the Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said.
The family did not want to comment.
