Johannesburg – Two loud bangs were heard when EFF protesters clashed with police near Parliament hours before President Jacob Zuma was due to deliver his State of the Nation address on Thursday afternoon in Cape Town.
A police line held back EFF protesters who were pushing their way through.
Police were heard through loudhailers instructing protesters to move back, before firing stun grenades and rubber bullets into the crowds.
EFF protesters fled in different directions after two loud bangs. Some protesters were heard screaming while fleeing the scene.
The protesters held placards which read, “Zuma is no longer president but a common criminal arrest him now.”
Some EFF protesters forced their way into a nearby building during the commission. EFF protesters have been seen moving towards St George’s Mall.
