Cape Town – A Cape Town woman could face charges of animal cruelty after throwing a puppy off a four-storey balcony.
The incident took place in Ottery on June 3.
As a result of the fall, the puppy's right femur was fractured and she displayed signs of neurological damage, Cape of Good Hope SPCA spokesperson Belinda Abraham told News24.
Miraculously, the dog was likely to make a full recovery.
"Following treatment, she is doing well and has been moved from our hospital into our animal pound."
The pooch did not have a name yet.
The SPCA described her as "incredibly playful and loving".
Abraham said the woman claimed the puppy was mistaken for rubbish, which she then tossed over the balcony.
"She showed absolutely no remorse for her actions and no concern for the puppy's welfare."
Staff at the organisation were awaiting a full report from the vet before laying charges at Lansdowne police station.
