Johannesburg - The trial of three men accused of being part of a 12-man gang that attacked two couples at Rhodes Park in 2015 continues at the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge on Friday.
Thabo Nkala, 25, Admore Ndlovu, 23, and Mduduzi Mathibela Lawrence, 32, face charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances, rape, and murder following the attack on the four on the evening of Saturday, October 17, 2015.
The couples were forced to lie on the ground, and a knife was used to cut off the panties of both women. Both were raped, one by a man using his fingers.
Their partners were told to undress and forced into the lake, where they drowned. The gang allegedly stole their clothes, jewellery and cellphones.
On Thursday, Constable Bambatha Jan Tshabalala testified that police on the night of the attack found two women who were both crying and shivering. They told him a group of 12 men had raped and robbed them, and that their partners had been thrown into the dam.
Their partners’ bodies were later retrieved by police divers.
The accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
