Cape Town – President Jacob Zuma is "dangerous for our fragile democracy," Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane has said.
Speaking at a public meeting in Nelson Mandela Bay ahead of by-elections in the area, Maimane again took potshots at the president, accusing him of corruption and state capture.
"This community deserves better and South Africa deserves better. The first step towards building a better South Africa and stopping corruption starts with putting your 'X' next to the Democratic Alliance on 9 November," he said.
They would not allow people or other political parties stand to stand in the way of the fight against corruption, Maimane said.
"Zuma and the ANC will fall because they stand in support of corruption. If others do the same, their demise will be premature."
When fighting against corruption, Maimane said, they were fighting for the people of the communities and South Africa.
"When we stand up as a lone voice against people with an agenda that is at odds with the fight against corruption, we are fighting for change that creates jobs and delivers better services."
The party, whether in government or opposition, needed to remain vigilant in the fight for accountability, transparency, he said.
"If not, the fight against corruption will be severely compromised, because it is only the DA that has consistently championed and supported efforts to stop corruption."
Maimane visited New Brighton as well as Walmer Township in Nelson Mandela Bay.
