Johannesburg – The death of Mangaung Deputy Mayor Connie Rampai has robbed the metro of a humble, selfless and committed servant and leader, the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) said on Monday.
Rampai was killed in a car accident in the early hours of Saturday morning.
"Her contribution and passion will be sorely missed. Councillors nominated to serve our communities must emulate her and put our communities first," Sanco general secretary Skhumbuzo Mpanza said.
Mpanza expressed his shock and sent condolences to the Rampai family, her colleagues in council, and the ANC.
"A fitting tribute to her memory will be to realise the ANC's commitment to strengthen capacity of municipalities to drive economic, infrastructure and spatial development to create jobs and promote job placements, especially for unemployed youth," Mpanza said.
Mpanza called on road traffic law enforcement to increase visibility on public roads to reduce road accidents and fatalities.
