Durban - A 62-year-old Durban woman went missing while driving home in torrential rain on Monday night.
Brenda Scriven’s car was found washed off a road in Glen Anil. She had left work in south Durban after 16:00 and could not be reached on her phone.
She is the second
woman reported missing after torrential rain hit parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
Her daughter Lindy Swales told News24 they became frantic when she failed to
return home.
"We kept calling and calling and there was no answer. Eventually a man answered and said he had seen her car washed off the road and stopped to help. There was a man sitting inside it and when he knocked on the window the guy ran off. We have her bag and keys and cellphone which was all left in the car," she said.
"Another woman we spoke to, who runs a business near where the car was found, said she remembered a woman walking up the road, but now there is no sign of her."
They had called local hospitals, who had no record of her.
"We are all out searching now and we have about 30 cars driving these streets. We just don't know what could have happened."
Earlier, police search and rescue officers searched a river in Silverglen, Chatsworth, where a woman went missing after her car was swept off a low-lying bridge.
The search was suspended for the night.
