Johannesburg - A 21-year-old man was shot in the head after he responded to his father's screams during an attempted robbery at their home in Florida, Roodepoort, on Wednesday morning, police said.
Sergeant Mpho More said the owner of the house had opened his garage to leave for work when he was approached by three men.
Two of the men had firearms.
"He told the men to take the keys of the Amarok and leave. He later screamed, then his two sons ran out to see what was happening. One of them was shot twice in the head," More said.
The incident happened around 05:45 on Wednesday.
Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the son was in critical condition.
Botha said that they had airlifted him to a specialised hospital after he was stabilised.
