Cape Town – A Woolworths store manager in Paarl was assaulted after confronting suspected shoplifters at the weekend, police have said.
Western Cape police confirmed the manager had confronted two people on Sunday after suspecting they had stolen from the store.
Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said police officers soon arrived at a shopping centre in Paarl and arrested two people for theft and assault.
They would appear in Paarl Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
She did not specify which shopping centre or store.
Woolworths confirmed to News24 on Monday that a single suspected shoplifter injured their store manager at the Paarl Mall.
The manager was taken to hospital, but Woolworths would not divulge the nature of the injuries.
In a separate incident in Paarl on Sunday, a security manager of a shopping mall received information of possible ATM cloning.
Without disclosing which mall, Rwexana said the security manager took photographs of a vehicle suspected to be involved.
Two suspects threatened him with a knife before fleeing the scene.
They were later arrested.
The pair would also appear in court on Tuesday.
