Pretoria - The Botshabelo police detective unit was dealt another sad blow after one of its members was found stabbed to death in the early hours of Sunday morning, police said.
"At about 06:00... the Boithuso SAPS were alerted to a body of a male that was lying next to Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium in Botshabelo. It was discovered that it was that of a 36-years-old constable based at Botshabelo Detectives," spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thandi Mbambo said.
She said Constable Mosiuoa Putsoeli's body was found with a stab wound to the neck and his service pistol and cellphone were missing.
"A Provincial Task Team led by Colonel Ketlamoreng Mafoyane from the Hawks in Bloemfontein was activated to lead the investigation. An appeal is made to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of suspect/s should please contact Colonel Mafoyane at 082 3739259," she said.
Free State Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thabethe Mpembe said the death of the officer was unacceptable. He said it was the third member of the unit who died in recent days. Two other officers were killed earlier in the week when the car they were travelling in overturned in Winburg.
"A loss of one police officer is a loss too many, hence we urge the community to assist with information that could expose and put behind bars those responsible for this barbaric act, and retrieve... the firearm that is going to be used to instil fear and threaten innocent community members," said Mpembe.
