Cape Town - Three women involved in the alleged sale of a one-year-old girl in Mpumalanga will make a formal bail application on Monday, the Hawks said.
Spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said on Thursday that a tip-off led to the arrest of the child’s 25-year-old biological mother and two other women in Nelspruit on Tuesday.
"Nomasonto Angel Khoza allegedly sold her biological daughter to a 45-year-old woman at a price of R5000," he said.
"The child was found in Springs, Gauteng, and the mother, as well as Nomthandazo Nkuna, 18, who allegedly assisted in the transaction, appeared before the Nelspruit Magistrate's Court on Tuesday."
The alleged buyer would appear in court on human trafficking charges on Thursday, Mulaudzi said.
