Cape Town - UCT management has called an occupation of its administrative Bremner building "unacceptable" in light of recent progress made between the university and protesting students.
As of Saturday morning, the Bremner building's Mafeje room remained occupied over ongoing student protests and demands related to financial exclusions, UCT spokesperson Elijah Moholola said.
He said significant progress had already been made on some of the issues raised, but some additional demands made by the students at a meeting on Wednesday were unrealistic.
"Some of these demands – especially the demand that no black student should be excluded academically or economically – go far beyond the agreement between the executive and the student representatives.
"This demand cannot be met by the UCT executive."
UCT management called on the students to end the Bremner occupation, he said.
