Johannesburg - Two Johannesburg metro police officers were arrested after they were caught on camera allegedly taking a bribe on Albertina Sisulu Road in Bez Valley.
Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said a case of extortion was opened at the Jeppe police station.
Minnaar said the case will be handed over to the senior public prosecutor for prosecution
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) appealed to the person who took the footage to contact JMPD on 011 490 1797 or visit their internal affairs office at the corner of Village Road and Loveday Street during office hours to give a statement which will help to secure this case.
In the video two men can be seen emptying their pockets to hand money over to the officers.
The video‚ captured on a cellphone‚ was sent to the JMPD.
Johannesburg safety MMC Michael Sun said JMPD internal affairs worked hard on case.
"The two officers involved were arrested yesterday morning," Sun said.
He said they would appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.
"The two officers also face internal disciplinary processes and will be dismissed if found guilty," said Sun.
