We're not a corrupt group, says Dlodlo

Cape Town - It is unfair for people to peddle the story that all the ministers who were brought in with President Jacob Zuma's last Cabinet reshuffle were a "corrupt group", Communications Minister Ayanda Dlodlo said on Wednesday.

Dlodlo, who was one of the new appointees in the reshuffle on March 30, revealed at a panel discussion on "fake news" in Cape Town that these views had been a sore point for her.

"We are all seen as part of this state capture gravy train, a corrupt team appointed by President Zuma, without giving us the benefit of the doubt."

She wondered why the new ministers were being singled out when they were all, first and foremost, members of Parliament and longstanding members of the African National Congress (ANC).

"I come from the ANC school; from Umkhonto we Sizwe. I come from a home that instilled good values in me. Those good values speak to serving people. If you are put in a position, do your work."

She said none of those who were brought in or removed were less or more than other members.

"We all sign performance agreements with the president."

She felt she had credibility and had earned her stripes.

Dlodlo asked that citizens have faith and allow ministers to prove themselves.

"We go in there knowing our first port of call in terms of the work we do and who we are answering to is the people of South Africa. Let them test us."
