Zuma's resignation, Guptas and Nene take centre stage

Cape Town - President Jacob Zuma’s desired resignation, the Guptas and former finance minister Nhlanhla Nene’s dismissal took centre stage in Parliament on Thursday.

Zuma delivered his State of the Nation address in a joint sitting in the National Assembly, but opposition parties made life difficult for him.

The DA's MPs heckled, mumbled and laughed throughout Zuma’s speech.

This was after the EFF and Cope walked out of the National Assembly.

The EFF walked out an hour after the start of SONA, chanting “Zupta must fall”.

"Zupta" is a reference to Zuma's close links with the influential Gupta family who secured an interdict against the EFF this week.

While Zuma delivered his speech, mostly focusing on the economy, opposition parties wanted to know if he was going to resign.

The parties also wanted clarity on Nene’s dismissal from his point, blaming the state of the economy on the decision to remove him.

“Give us something new,” DA MPs mumbled through the speech.
