Aimee Pistorius: Reeva was easy to love

Johannesburg - Reeva Steenkamp was a very special person who “was easy to love”, Oscar Pistorius’s sister has told eNCA in an interview.

Speaking at an upmarket guesthouse in Midrand, outside Johannesburg, Pistorius’s siblings, Aimee and Carl, told the broadcaster that the “landscape of our lives remains changed forver”.

Aimee said she didn’t want to make Reeva’s death about herself but said “there is a loss and a hurt that... she’s no longer here”.

The siblings refused to say what kind of sentence they were hoping their brother would get and wouldn’t speculate on what it would be.

The athlete has been found guilty of culpable homicide for killing Steenkamp who was shot four times through a locked toilet door on Valentine’s Day last year.

The two said that the last few months have been “very taxing”. They told CNN in another interview the shooting “had to be a mistake because I know my brother and his fears”.

Even though sentencing is on Tuesday and it might bring to an end the legal process which started after Steenkamp’s shooting in February last year, the Pistorius’s say it will “never be over” and it’s a “phase in a journey that will never end”.

Meanwhile, Steenkamp’s sister Simone Cowburn has told the Daily Mail in the UK she believes Oscar deserves to go to prison as house arrest in his uncle’s luxury Waterkloof, Pretoria, home would be just “wrong”.

Cowburn doesn’t believe the athlete showed any remorse for Steenkamp’s death and should get 10 or 20 years behind bars for the law graduate’s death.

She says Oscar is simply using his disability as an excuse to stay out of prison and says he should be punished “like any other able-bodied person and “shouldn’t be given privileges now”.
