Reeva's death affected her parents' health. Uncle Barry suffered quite a bit. He's had a few strokes. Physically it's very draining. The whole process of coming up here. For Aunty June the signs of stress are obvious. They've tried to be strong through all this, they are very strong people to cope with what they've coped with...

My husband took control, bought plane tickets... The worst experience I've ever been through. I was dreading facing Aunty June and Uncle Barry.

I got to my mother and she was hysterical and asked her to confirm that it was Reeva. She said it was. She spoke to Aunty June. That was for me the end of teh world. Everything was so blurred from then. My husband rushed to fetch my daughter so she wouldn't hear it at school.

Just after husband told me OP killed his girlfriend, he turned car around in the traffic. Media hadn't yet confirmed who girlfriend was. I tried phoning her, she wasn't answering. My huband was saying "calm down..."

June started a small restaurant business with two friends. They did all the work - cooking, serving, etc.

The Steenkamps were very generous people. Their home was always open to anyone. A family friend who was wayward was given a place to stay and a job was made for him. All stray animals were picked up by Aunty June. That's one of the main reasons why they were in financial troubles.

After we got Reeva's cat, the girls didn't lock the door properly and the cat ran away. We searched everywhere and Reeva kept asking how the cat was and I avoided telling her. Eventually I did tell her and she said not to worry. She said she was being punished for being selfish.
Luckily we found the cat a month and a half later.

Reeva had fed stray cats that eventually became her pets. In process of moving, one cat ran away, Reeva was devastated. The other cat luckily was still there and the cat couldn't stay long and she called me, in tears, not knowing what to do. I joked I could take the cat and she was so relieved. She flew the cat down.
