And that's where we'll leave it today. We'll be back on Tuesday (tomorrow) for day 35. Cheers.

OP "slips pen into breast pocket, turns the pages of a ring binder where some passages are highlighted yellow and grips his iPhone", tweets The Guardian's David Smith.

30 Jun 2014
Roux concludes. Nel begins.

Lin holds sound meter on witness stand. "I'm now going to measure the ambient sound level of this court." It's 38 dBA.
30 Jun 2014
Lin is going to measure ambient noise level, asks court to be quiet for 2 seconds.
30 Jun 2014
Lin says he's brought to court a professional sound level meter.
30 Jun 2014
Lin says if listeners were 177m away in bedroom and sound came from bathroom, sound would not have been audible or intelligible.
30 Jun 2014
Lin says if listeners were 177m away on balcony and the sound came from
the bathroom, sound would have been audible and intelligible.
30 Jun 2014
Barking dogs not taken into account for testing, Lin confirms.
30 Jun 2014
Court resumes. Lin still testifying.
30 Jun 2014
The first witness to testify in the trial, neighbour Michelle Burger, lived 177m away and claims she heard a woman's "blood-curdling screams".

30 Jun 2014
Court takes a short adjournment.
30 Jun 2014
Roux turns over to next page of Lin's report. Who knows how long this will take...
30 Jun 2014
Lin: at 177metres away, if scream was from toilet, unlikely that it would have been audible.
30 Jun 2014
Lin: "The listeners could have heard a scream from 80m away, irrespective if it was from toilet, bathroom or balcony."
30 Jun 2014
Lin: At 170m, if listeners were in the bedroom, a scream from the toilet
would range from "not audible to extremely unlikely to be audible".
30 Jun 2014
Lin: if listeners are in bedroom and scream emanates form balcony, it would be audible and intelligible
30 Jun 2014
Lin: "If listeners were in the bedroom and scream originated from
bathroom", the sound would be "in the range of audible and intelligible".
30 Jun 2014
Lin: "Can one reliably differentiate a male and female scream... Can one
discern the emotion of a scream from 80 to 100 metres away?"
30 Jun 2014
Lin is STILL speaking about possible scenarios. Well, isn't he thorough...
30 Jun 2014
Lin describes the expected sound levels at 180km away from bedroom, bathroom, balcony.
30 Jun 2014
Lin lists more scenarios for strength of sound travelling 177 metres: windows open, atmospheric pressure etc.
30 Jun 2014
Lin describes the loss of sound at the listener's position with the window open and closed.
30 Jun 2014
Roux continues with sound expert Ivan Lin. Lin goes over some scenarios about what might have been heard on night of shooting.

Court resumes.

30 Jun 2014
Court adjourns for lunch.
30 Jun 2014
Lin is making many subpoints. I've lost count of how many.
Lin says sound generated on balcony would be influenced by line of sight.
30 Jun 2014
Lin: Variables in sound transmission include grass length, temperature, humidity, wind at the time...
Grass length? Er, yeah OK.
30 Jun 2014
Mr Lin says what people heard depends on whether they live within the
line of sight of the house, and the "meteorological conditions".
30 Jun 2014
Lin says one can typically differentiate between a male and a female's screams but not always.
30 Jun 2014
Lin: we have found no studies to support the assumption that all female / male screams sound the same.
30 Jun 2014
Lin: Is it correct to assume that all male/female screams sound the same?
Will the court listen to a recording of OP screaming?
30 Jun 2014
Roux asks if two people can hear same sound differently because it's interpreted by the brain. Lin agrees.
30 Jun 2014
Lin says court should consider certain facts when assessing his report.
30 Jun 2014
Acoustic engineer Lin looked at two questions: Can you differentiate between male/female screams; & discern emotion, over distance?
30 Jun 2014
Lin says he tested the difference between female and male voices
30 Jun 2014
Lin dealt with two questions - can a person distinguish male from female voice at 177m away from the source…
30 Jun 2014
Lin says he studies acoustics and how human beings perceive sound.
30 Jun 2014
Lin says he is an acoustics engineer and has been since 1992.
30 Jun 2014
Lin confirms to Roux he compiled report on evidence.
30 Jun 2014
Roux moves onto next witness, an acoustics expert. Ivan Lin is his name.
30 Jun 2014
Roux hands another set of documents to the court.
30 Jun 2014
Masipa orders that who ever was responsible for sealing the house provide an explanation as to the whereabouts of the cord.
30 Jun 2014
Masipa says she's very unhappy about this missing cord.
30 Jun 2014
Roux: "I think at the very least we're entitled to an explanation....
The person who was in control of the house should explain."
30 Jun 2014
Roux says the cord is not at OP's house. These are the cold facts: The police took possession of the house.
So basically, Roux is putting the blame at the police's door. If you will remember, one of OP's watches went missing in the hours after Steenkamp's death when the police were there.
