Polokwane – The ANC Veteran's League on Thursday criticised labour federation Cosatu and the SA Communist Party for protesting against the ANC-led government in Limpopo.
Veteran's League president Sandi Sejake told a media briefing in Polokwane that while they supported Cosatu's anti-corruption strategy, they were against marches to the office of embattled premier Cassel Mathale.
About two weeks ago, Cosatu and the Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veteran's Association demanded that Mathale must step down as premier, because his poor management had led to the province being placed under administration.
The march to Mathale's office came as the SA Revenue Service, the public protector, and Hawks were investigating allegations of irregular tender awards in the province.
Sejake said Cosatu and the SACP needed to produce concrete evidence of their corruption allegations.
When approached for comment, Cosatu in Limpopo dismissed his claim that the recent marches against the provincial government were politically motivated.
The union federation’s provincial secretary Dan Sebabi said they would continue to march to "intensify the agenda of the working class".
“We will continue to march because the Constitution allows us to do so. Those who say we should not march, we don’t understand whose interest they represent,” said Sebabi.
Five provincial departments were placed under administration in December after the province ran out of money.
