Cele heads to ConCourt over media

Johannesburg - Former police commissioner Bheki Cele plans to approach the Constitutional Court, apparently to stop politicians being defamed by the media.

"It is true, he will be taking it to the Constitutional Court," Cele's spokesperson Nonkululeko Mbatha said on Thursday.

She could not elaborate on what kind of application he would make or when it would be made.

The New Age reported on Thursday that Cele approached the court regarding the lack of a remedy in law for politicians subjected to indignity and defamation by the media.

The case emanates from Cele's defamation case against the Sowetan newspaper seven years ago, which he lost in the High Court in Johannesburg and Supreme Court of Appeal.

The dispute was over a picture published in 2007. Cele's legal counsel claimed the picture was altered - and that his head from one photograph was superimposed onto the photo of another person holding a handgun.

To be defamed, one needs to acquire fame first, Notoriety does not qualify as fame.

Bheki you really are a special kind of stupid, let me enlighten you, we live in a democracy, you and your ilk are a public servants and as such open to public scrutiny, the media is there not only to report your successes but also to expose your failings and sometimes your corrupt tendencies to the public! Moral of the story, if you're going to hold public office, make sure you do a good job and that your integrity is beyond reproach...simple!

The MP's become honest and work hard and maybe they won't have the truth splashed across the newspaper. The people have the right to know if they have elected a thug , the right to remove and a right that the courts nail him and all of this covered by the media .
