Ramaphosa concludes visit to Lesotho

Johannesburg - Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa concluded his Southern African Development Community (SADC) facilitation visit to Lesotho on Monday, his office said.

"During the visit, the facilitator paid a courtesy call on His Majesty King Letsie III before holding consultations with the Prime Minister Dr Tom Thabane, deputy prime minister Mothejoa Metsing, European Union (EU) Ambassador Dr Michael Doyle and members of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC)," said spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa.

He said Ramaphosa was scheduled return to Lesotho on Wednesday and Thursday.

Ramaphosa has so far led the SADC facilitation mission to Lesotho four times, to smooth dialogue between Lesotho's political role players.

In an attempt to bring stability to the country, Ramaphosa facilitated the signing of the Maseru Facilitation Declaration among Lesotho's main political players.

The declaration provided for the reconvening of Lesotho's parliament by King Letsie III on Friday. The parliamentary sitting discussed the country's budget and the holding of elections.

National elections were expected to be held at the end of February next year, on a date to be set by the king.

Ramaphosa returns to South Africa on Tuesday.
