With regular fares starting as low as R499 between Cape Town and Johannesburg, and R399 (inclusive of taxes) between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, FlySafair is positioning itself as South Africa’s first true low cost carrier.
The first flights take off on 16 October.
“Our low ticket prices are not opening specials or marketing showstoppers to announce the start-up of FlySafair. Our fares will always be affordable, honest and transparent, offering our passengers real value on each and every one of our flights going forward, making air travel more accessible to a greater proportion of the South African population,” says Dave Andrew, CEO of FlySafair.
Following best practice principles of other international low cost airlines, FlySafair will charge passengers a base rate which secures a seat on the flight, and allows travellers two pieces of free carry-on luggage (one bag and one personal item) weighing no more than 7kg in total.
Extras such as catering, check-in luggage, pre-booked preferential seats or extra-space seats such as those in the front rows or at emergency exits, will be charged for according to passengers’ specific needs.
Checked bag added to online flight booking: R150
At the airport : R250 per bag payable in cash or by card
Call Centre/Website : R250 per bag payable by card
“While this may be considered an unconventional approach for airlines in South Africa, FlySafair believes that passengers should have the choice to tailor their ticket prices by not having to pay for extras that they don’t want or need. Why should passengers be charged for luggage if they have none to check in or foot the bill for a preferential seat if they don’t mind which seat the airline allocates to them?” continues Andrew.
With a commitment to providing the most competitive and affordable prices, FlySafair’s entry into South Africa’s domestic market will benefit the consumer by increasing the number of cheap flight tickets available, which will drive industry prices down in general.
“In addition to offering the best value for money, our customers can look forward to exceptional service, backed by our good old fashioned values of care and respect. Having been around for almost 50 years, Safair has a legacy of proven experience, expertise and excellence so whichever way you look at it, the consumer wins! We look forward to welcoming our passengers on-board for a ‘love at first flight’ experience!” concludes Andrew.
