Mandela tour named one of NatGeo’s top 50

Washington - National Geographic Traveler magazine has announced its annual Tours of a Lifetime selection and a trip based on the landscapes and culture that influenced Nelson Mandela’s life has made it into the top 50.

Presented by Red Savannah, a UK-based travel company, the ‘Mandela Landscapes’ tour takes travellers on either a seven- or eleven-day journey, starting on the Wild Coast with an exploration of Madiba’s birthplace and childhood home.

It then winds its way through various parts of the Eastern Cape, finally ending up at the Samara Game Reserve close to Somerset East.

Guests who are interested can opt to continue on to Cape Town to experience the Footsteps of Freedom tour, Robben Island and the Cape Winelands.

The 2014 list features 50 of the world’s best guided trips chosen by the editors of National Geographic Traveler. In addition, the editors picked 10 of their favorite expeditions of a lifetime offered by National Geographic.

The list and details about the trips can be viewed in National Geographic Traveler magazine’s May 2014 issue as well as on the National Geographic Travel website

From joining a voodoo ritual in Benin to kayaking the canals and barrier islands of Venice to following the cheese trail in Vermont, the 50 guided tours offer authentic travel experiences that are sure to leave participants smarter, wiser and refreshed.

The additional 10 expert-led, signature tours from the National Geographic Travel family include inspiring adventures from Antarctica to Cuba to the Galápagos.
