Die Burger reports that photos of a female elephant were discovered last Thursday when the Landmark Foundation downloaded photos from one of their camera traps in the Knysna forest.
According to Jeannine McManus the cameras are actually used to research Cape leopards, which also occur in the area.
The images of the elephant were captured in January and February this year, but since the cameras are only checked every few months not discovered until last week.
Due to the animal's protected status, the Landmark foundation cannot reveal where exactly the shots were taken.
However, next time you head out to the Garden Route and take a stroll through the Knysna Forest, keep your ears and eyes peeled for the sighting of a lifetime!
