The National Zoological Gardens in Pretoria have a new resident - a seven-year-old white rhino cow.
Beeld reports that the perky pachyderm was brought to the zoo from its breeding centre in Lichtenburg, which was closed in September last year after 38 years. The rhino, which has not been named yet, was born at the centre
She will be introduced to the zoo's resident white rhino bull, two-year-old Goliath in the next few weeks. The two are currently separated by a gate between their two encampments.
Angeline Schwan, spokesperson for the zoo, told the paper that white rhino couples tend to spend a lot more time together than black rhinos do, as the latter generally prefer their own company.
The addition of the rhino cow brings the zoo's current white rhino count to four - two cows and two bulls.
