Cape Town - Table Mountain Cableway has announced it will be closed from Monday 28 July to Sunday 10 August for scheduled annual maintenance.
This is part of the required to meet the highest global cableway standards set by the Swiss Governing Body for Cableways (BAV), the company stated in a press release.
The maintenance plans include cleaning of the ropes and slack rope tests, renewing switches and bearings where necessary, servicing of the main gearbox, generators and backup generators, as well as general maintenance and testing.
There will also be some infrastructure refurbishment undertaken, including general painting and upkeep and road painting for the new MyCiti Bus route to the Lower Cableway Station.
Visitors have been advised to take advantage of the Cableway specials that are on offer before and after the annual maintenance period.
These include a free return ticket for adults on their birthday on presentation of a South African ID, and the Kidz Season special that offers two children under 18 years a free return trip if they are accompanied by a full paying adult (valid over weekends, public and school holidays until 31 October 2014).
Should your birthday fall within this closure period, you are entitled to redeem your complimentary Cableway birthday ticket one week before (20 July – 27 July) or one week after (11 August – 18 August) annual maintenance.
