Give us two minutes and we'll give you a cheat sheet on the latest Sars scandal involving a 'hostage' situation and an argument over a highly sensitive email.
On Thursday, 28 October video and audio captured by Sars deputy director of law Vlok Symington suggested Hawks officers barred him from leaving a boardroom last week.
Symington provided legal advice on the legalities of Ivan Pillay's early retirement as a permanent Sars employee in 2009.
The administration around Pillay's early retirement and the ensuing pension pay out is central to the National Prosecuting Authority's case against Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.
Last week Tuesday the Hawks demanded an urgent affidavit from Symington on his report. The meeting between Symington and Hawks officials including Brigadier Nyamkela Xaba is said to have gone well at first.
However, according to a report in the Daily Maverick, on Xaba's returning from a chat with Sars head Tom Moyane things soured between Symington and the officials..
Among those present when Symington says he was barred from exiting a boardroom and alleges he was assaulted was Moyane's bodyguard Thabo Titi.
The incident does not auger well for the National Prosecuting Authority's case against Gordhan, Pillay and Oupa Magashula which is set down for 2 November.
