Today marks five years since the Marikana massacre, in which 34 miners were gunned down by police. It is believed to be the most lethal use of force by South African police since the dawn of democracy.
On Tuesday, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said that the incident should never be used to score political points, adding that the debate on Marikana, in it's full context, has not yet started.
