Frankfurt - At least two people were injured as a tornado tore through the western German state of Hesse overnight into Monday, reported fire and rescue crews.
No deaths were reported, but police in the city of Fulda reported that multiple trees and power lines were knocked down and a number of people lost telephone service before the storm died out. At least 16 houses lost their roofs.
The storm also caused a man driving a transport van to lose control of his vehicle near the town of Alsfeld when he was surprised by the winds. He crashed into the guard rail and was taken to hospital with severe injuries.
