Phnom Penh - A Cambodian soldier is on the run after allegedly killing his younger commander with a machete for intervening in a marital dispute, a news report said on Friday.
Sergeant major Te Bunthoeun, 44, was involved in a dispute with his wife in Banteay Meanchey province on Wednesday, when she called her husband's superior officer, The Cambodia Daily said, quoting a military official.
Twenty-eight-year-old commander Nget Kong Rith arrived at the house and disciplined Bunthoeun, slapping him twice, the report said. Bunthoeun then ran inside the house and picked up a machete.
"The suspect chopped the victim's throat two times, killing him instantly, and then fled the scene," the paper quoted military official Seng Phearin as saying.
Police are searching for Bunthoeun, who is believed to have fled to Thailand.
