Athens - Some 280 ferry passengers and crew have reached a remote Greek port late on Friday after being stranded in bad weather for two days.
The coast guard said the Vitsenzos Kornaros, carrying 227 passengers and 55 crew members, reached port on the small Aegean island of Kassos after having run aground nearby on Wednesday. The agency said the 129m ship was not damaged and no one on board required immediate medical attention.
A lull in gale-force winds allowed the crew to free the ferry, using its own power and assistance from a passing vessel, the coast guard said. A tug boat sent earlier from the island of Mykonos failed to complete the journey to the ferry because of the bad weather.
