Israelis ordered to Tel Aviv bomb shelters

Jerusalem - The Israeli military urged Israelis living as far as 80km away from Gaza, or beyond the Tel Aviv area, to open bomb shelters on Tuesday, as militants fired dozens of rockets when a truce broke down.

Hamas said after a deadly Israeli air strike that it fired 40 rockets at Israel, with one of them aimed at Ben-Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv, the country's main international airport.

Israeli media reported at least 30 strikes, with one person injured, and that municipalities in the Tel Aviv area had already reopened shelters shut during a 10-day truce period in the five-week-old Gaza war, though there were no reported strikes near the airport.

A rocket fired from Gaza struck as far as the Tel Aviv area on Tuesday, the Israeli military said, in the deepest rocket attack since a truce calmed fighting about 10 days ago.

Hamas's armed wing claimed responsibility for the rocket, which Israel said landed in an open area, causing no casualties. It was fired after Israel's first lethal air strike since the breakdown of a truce earlier in the day that killed three people and wounded 40.

Palestinian medical officials in the Gaza Strip say two people, including a 2-year-old girl, have been killed in an Israeli airstrike.

Israel resumed its campaign of airstrikes in Gaza on Tuesday in response to a barrage of Palestinian rocket fire that shattered a truce. The sudden burst of fighting has threatened to derail an Egyptian effort to end a monthlong war between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza.

Palestinian medical official Ashraf al-Kidra said a total of 21 people were wounded in an airstrike that hit a building that houses offices of Hamas' Al Aqsa TV station.

He said two people, including a 40-year-old woman and the young girl, were killed in a separate airstrike in Gaza City. They were the first fatalities in Tuesday's fighting.

Hamas have broken yet another ceasefire, launching missiles into Israel 8 hours before the ceasefire ended. Israel must not negotiate with these terrorists. Time to send the IDF in again and this time sort out Hamas properly, retake Gaza and obliterate all Hamas terrorist infrastructure. Then put the PLO in charge, withdraw and build a security barrier (above and below ground) around Gaza. Once Gaza is demilitarized the blockade can be relaxed allowing in building materials.

This is a terrible piece of journalism. Firstly, the headline is incorrect. It's not Israelis who were asked to open shelters it was municipalities. 2nd the article is highly misleading as it makes out as if Israel broke the ceasefire when in fact Hamas broke the ceasefire by launching a missile attack. This missile attack was followed by Israel retaliatory strikes which in turn was followed by a heavy barrage of missile.

Netanyahu has not convened his security cabinet. Fighting is just very tiring and draining. The solution is negotiations and diplomacy

The truce broke down because Hamas fired rockets at Israel - before the barage on central Israel in case there is any confusion. Did Hamas really think Israel wouldn't respond?? It's like they are asking for it.

I still repeat Israel reaction is due to Hamas action
