Valletta - Malta has recalled its diplomats from Libya, citing security concerns, Foreign Minister George Vella said on Monday.
Fighting between rival militias has forced many countries to withdraw their diplomats out of the North African country.
A EU-recognised government has moved to Tobruk, 1 000 kilometres away from Tripoli.
During a press conference, Vella said the presence of Islamic State flags in Tripoli had compounded the threat in the North African country. Libya remains in a state of chaos three years after the ouster of Muammar Gaddafi.
