Thai witchdoctor jailed for fraud, sexual assault

Bangkok - A Thai witchdoctor has been sentenced to 22 years and 8 months in jail for fraud and sexual assault, a media report said Tuesday.

Thanawat Asawaponsuwan, known locally as Dr Karawek, was sentenced to 22 years by the Bangkok criminal court for deceiving eight women into having sex with him.

Thanawat advertised on local websites that he had "black magic powers" and could create love potions that would entice the opposite sex, according to Manager Newspaper.

The eight victims had approached Thanawat for his services only to be told that they must perform sexual acts with him as compensation.

The court also found the defendant guilty of fraud after he could not prove in court that he possessed any supernatural powers.
