UK police escort man off Qatar Airways plane

London - British armed police took a handcuffed man off a Qatar Airways plane which had been escorted into Manchester by a fighter jet, Reuters photographs showed on Tuesday.

A passenger on the plane interviewed by the BBC said the man was taken off while other passengers waited in their seats.

A spokesperson for Qatar Aiways said the crew of flight QR23 from Doha to Manchester had received a threat about a possible device on board.

A tweet by the Greater Manchester Police says that the man was arrested on suspicion of making a hoax bomb threat.

At least they caught him before another disaster struck. This is not funny.

With Israeli EL AL Airlines you will never experience this scrabbling of jets. Thumbs up to them

So what is the fighter plane supposed to do? Shoot him if he jumps out? Pointless

I may be way off here , but I think it is in cases where shooting the entire plane down is deemed the better of two evils w.r.t containing the threat/risk to lives other than thos on the plane
