Ukraine needs military support but not NATO troops: ambassador

Brussels - Ukraine requires military assistance from Nato but does not expect it to send troops to fight pro-Russian separatists, the Ukrainian ambassador to the alliance said on Friday.

"What we need is more assistance, including military. It is clear that Nato cannot support Ukraine with troops and we do not expect member states to do so," said Ihor Dolhov, head of the Ukrainian delegation to Nato.

"We do not consider such an option for the time being. We can protect ourselves but we need assistance to stop aggression to call President (Vladimir) Putin to peace," Dolhov said following an emergency Nato meeting on the crisis in eastern Ukraine.

Up to this point Nato member states have "unfortunately" not provided any weapons to Ukraine, he said.

Dolhov said he hoped for "practical results" from a NATO summit due to take place in Wales on 4 and 5 September.

"We do not need only consultative assistance but also something concrete like, for example, software for logistics."

Nato ambassadors held a crisis meeting on Friday after the alliance said Russia had at least 1 000 troops fighting to support a lightning rebel counter-offensive against Ukrainian government forces.

In a move certain to anger Kiev's former masters in Moscow, Nato chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen Rasmussen said the military alliance was not closing the door to Ukraine's possible membership after the government said it wanted to join.

Why is the ANC so quiet on the Human Rights abused of the Ukraine people???

It is very telling to see the pro Western commentators calling for huge support and greater intervention from NATO to quell the anti Kiev movement under the guise of stopping an invasion. So the immediate response is a violent one. How difficult can it be to establish the true origin of the rebel fighters? If they are from the Ukraine, the Kiev is busy with a NATO supported ethnic cleansing, if they are all from Russia, then fine, stop the invasion based on factual and hard evidence. NATO has attacked on false pretext just about every time it turns out to be false. NATO continues to create scenarios for the West that would support intervention but the grounds are never questioned by their blood thirsty sheeple. The West continues to simply ignore evidence coming out of Russia but acts on press releases coming out of Kiev regardless of how absurd is content is. How about actually listening to the OSCE observers in the region for a change. They are neutral observers with accurate information mostly.

Amazing how the pursuit of war overshadows the pursuit of peace. Peace can be achieved with a simple ceasefire and open dialogue. The fact that anti Kiev forces are defending and not attacking provides the common logic that Kiev, by its unwillingness to back off is the aggressor. In a rape and murder scenario, would any sane person blame the rapist murderer or the victim? Clearly NATO, Washington and the EU are misguided by money and power rather than guided by integrity. The endgame of this crises is linked to the crises in ME and south China sea and if you are not seeing this connection, then you are very unaware of the next big war coming to this planet.

If to take the latest lies about Russian tanks photos from Ukrainian MFA into account, their words about not wanting NATO troops are worth of nothing. On Friday the bunch of losers aka Ukrainian supreme council started working on a special project of restoring their course to join the alliance. One little correction, according to NATO conduct a country which is having a territorial dispute with another country cannot become a member. I doubt that Ukraine will forget about Crimea. So... there's two variants of what are the plans for NATO. Either the ambassador is lying through his teeth and they actually plan to deploy NATO troops or the Ukrainian parliament is talking crap, as it has already become their second nature

Russia happens to be the largest country on earth..why would they want more land..perhaps if small minded people see this latest Russian support for those in the South East who are ethnic Russians as land grab..then all hope for reason flies out the window and further conversation is meaningless.Thank God above that Russia still talks the old Soviet Union would not have been so accommodating and nuclear war would have been a finger push away. Why is it so hard t6o see the other persons point of the world only safe if everyone backs Washington in it's adventures can people not see where this has led aka ISIS!These guys are serious very serious about toppling the Western materialistic world order and returning mankind to the 6th century religion "uber alles"! This phenomenon is as a direct result to US hegemony and interference in other countries affairs!Russia simply wants to preserve the world as they would like to see it..look at Europe..massive migrant immigration...!The so called "multiculturalism" has failed so says Angela Merkel recently..Europe has massive sectarian strife waiting to explode..remember Denmark not so long ago..riots and destruction in Copenhagen...just after Andres Bervik embarked on his solo crusade!People who impulsively back the US's plan for the world, should only look at what Snowdon revealed about the US security establishments actions to see what is coming..wake up Russia is not the enemy!
