Aleppo – Video footage shows a rescue worker breaking down in tears as he cradles a rescued baby in his arms following a reported airstrike in Idlib, northern Syria, on Thursday.
A volunteer with the Syria Civil Defence team (known as the White Helmets), Abu Kifah, pulled the one-month-old baby from the rubble and took her to an ambulance waiting nearby. She was covered in dust and suffered several cuts and bruises.
Workers desperately searched through the rubble to find survivors after air raids targeted Idlib and surrounding areas.
"We have been working for two or three hours, God willing," said Kifah.
The baby was retrieved from the rubble of a four-storey building.
"When I held her, I thought of her as my own baby girl… I took her to the hospital while I was holding her close to my chest as if she were my own daughter," he added.
At least six people died in the attacks on Thursday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
