Russian GP: Hamilton honours teen crash victim Monger

Sochi - Lewis Hamilton has demonstrated his support for a young British racing driver, who has had both legs amputated following a crash last Sunday, with a message on his helmet.

The three-time world champion had added the hashtag "xBillyWhizz" across the back of his racing helmet during Friday's opening practice sessions for this weekend's Russian Grand Prix.

It was his way of showing backing for Formula 4 driver  Billy Monger (17) who had both lower legs amputated after his crash at Donington Park.

Hamilton and other drivers including fellow-Briton 2009 champion Jenson Button made donations that enabled a Just Giving campaign to reach its target.

Donations had reached $976 000 this week.

Hamilton tweeted about Monger after hearing of the driver's injuries.

He wrote: "I have only just seen the news of this tragic incident. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family @BillyMonger."
